Electrolysis Aftercare Guide
Following the advice below will help ensure the best possible results, minimise the risk of adverse reactions, and support healthy skin healing.
What To Expect - Normal Reactions
The following reactions are completely normal and should resolve within 24-72 hours:
Mild redness and warmth around treated follicles. Can feel a bit like sunburn
Small whiteheads or tiny scabs forming over treated areas
Slight swelling or sensitivity in the treatment zone
A small amount of pinpoint bleeding immediately after treatment
Mild itching as the skin heals
First 24 - 48 Hours - Essential Care
DO
Keep the area clean and dry whenever possible.
Apply recommended soothing gel or aloe vera
Use a gentle, fragrance free, cleanser
Pat skin dry - do not rub
Apply SPF 30+ if area is exposed to sunlight
Wear loose, breathable clothing over treated area
Use a cool compress on swelling or warmth in the treated area.
DONT
Touch or scratch to reduce risk of irritation or contamination.
Apply makeup, unless pure mineral makeup (check ingredients!)
Use hot water, steam, and saunas
Swim in ocean, pools or hot tubs for 48 hrs
Sweat (no intense exercise) for minimum 48 hrs
Pick or squeeze any scabs or whiteheads.
Use sunbeds or self tanning products for at least 48 hrs
No waxing, threading, tweezing or depilatory creams for 48 hrs
Days 2-7 - Continued Care
Cleansing: Use a gentle, cream, non-abrasive cleanser twice daily. Avoid harsh scrubbing.
Moisturising: A light, fragrance-free moisturiser can be applied once redness has subsided.
Sun protection: Keep the area protected from UV exposure. Use SPF 30+ daily even if no redness remains.
Makeup: You may resume light makeup after 24 hours if the skin feels comfortable. Avoid heavy coverage over treated follicles.
Scabs & healing: Allow any small scabs to fall off naturally - do not pick. This prevents scarring and pigmentation changes.
Hair Regrowth & Treatment Intervals
Electrolysis is a permanent hair removal method - however, multiple sessions are needed to treat hairs across all growth cycles. You may notice some regrowth between appointments; this is normal and does not mean the treatment has not worked.
Shaving: You may shave between appointments if needed, but the hair needs to be at least 2mm for your next appointment.
Tweezing / waxing: Do NOT tweeze or wax between appointments — this disrupts the follicle and reduces treatment effectiveness.
Treatment intervals: Your therapist will advise on the recommended interval between sessions based on the area and hair growth pattern.
Long-Term Skin Care
Continue daily SPF application to prevent post-inflammatory pigmentation
Stay well hydrated - good skin health supports faster healing
Report any unusual skin changes to your therapist at your next appointment
Avoid fake tan on treated areas between sessions
SEEK MEDICAL ADVICE IF YOU EXPERIENCE:
! Significant swelling, pain or heat that worsens after 48 hours
! Signs of infection: pus, weeping, increasing redness or fever
! Unusual or excessive scarring or pigmentation changes
! An allergic reaction: severe itching, rash or hives
